The Art Criticism Process consists of 4 parts: Describe the art (what do you see), Analyze the art (list the elements), Interpret the art (What is the mood), and judge the art (What do you think). The piece shows two planes from different eras. It is a pencil drawing with shaded details. The art has a feeling of suspense because it makes you think how these two planes got there. I think that I could've made some lines and arcs look better over all. Art is anything people find enjoyable whether that is a painting, piece of music, or a sculpture it is all art. This piece is an illustrated version of an edited picture of my sister. I've known her for all of my life and he is a pretty important person to me. When i took the picture we were just sitting on the couch watching tv or something and we were just bugging each other by taking pictures of each other and this one turned out really well. I personally would say this is my most successful project because I achieved the look I was shooting for I wanted the shadows to look almost exactly like the real object and I think I mostly achieved that. The theme of the project was to illustrate something in the room using pen, pencil or chalk pastel. I chose to use pen as my medium and I drew the areas of shadow and where the gradients would be and them I started filling in with my pen.

I used ink to make the background. I cut out a picture I took of the dragon. I used tissue paper for the flames. I cut out a symbol on a linoleum block. Also I burned some of the edges of the paper.
My prompt was "If you could have one superpower what would it be" and I chose to summon a dragon. I plan to make my piece blue with glaze. I have dug in details to make it look like water. Finally I cut a fish into the side. Making the gills on the fish was difficult because the clay wanted to press into the other gills when i was carving them. Making the round legs was very successful.
I cut out multiple slabs of clay to build my pot. I scratched the edges of my slabs and applied slip to them. Once it became bone dry I applied glaze and it was fired. I haven't needed to do anything on the pot once it was fired. It came out very nicely. The glaze on the piece look very nice. If I were to do this again I would add a bit more glaze because its a bit spotty in some places. I would say the grid drawing was the most helpful warmup for me. The place represented in my art is my bedroom. I chose to paint this place because it is where I spend a lot of time practicing guitar and doing homework.
The most challenging part about the picture I chose was the strings of the guitar (you can see they are slightly misaligned at the nut). I feel the perspective of the piece is the most successful because it seems to fall back into the piece. I started by sketching out the body shape and large parts of the guitar and then I covered the whole thing in the blueish tint and painted over that with the other details. In this activity I learned how to take a real life object and mix its color using acrylic paint. The greens were more difficult than the purples and oranges. I made brown for this activity by making orange and then adding blue.
I chose to do my 2 in 1 project in pencil because that is one of my favorite mediums to work with.
My 2 in 1 piece contains a cockpit view of a WWI fighter looking at a WWII B-17 bomber. I started off by creating the cockpit and wings, then I created the bomber in the distance, next I added the joystick, machine guns, pedals, and dials before I finished it by adding value. My Mentor was Stevie.
She does mostly traditional art but sometimes does digital. Her Blog link is as follows: steviewyche.weebly.com I will benefit from a mentor because they are someone to get critiques from and go to for help or an idea. I want to gain a better understanding of how to become a better artist from my mentor. |
